Life as a Working Mum: Honest Insights from the Women at RENUE

Life as a Working Mum: Honest Insights from the Women at RENUE

At RENUE, we’re lucky to be surrounded by inspiring working mums—women who balance their careers with motherhood, proving every day that both can thrive side by side. During our AW24 relaunch shoot, we spoke to some of these incredible women—directors, stylists, models, and founders—about what it truly means to be a working mum.

From navigating mum guilt to finding the right balance, here’s what they had to say.

What’s the hardest part about being a working mum?

💬 "Definitely the guilt. You feel very guilty that you’re not there, or when you miss something." – Rebecca, Director

💬 "You kind of have these two parts to you, these two versions of yourself, that battle against each other. The mum guilt is very hard but then you get days like today, and it’s so worth it." – Olivia, RENUE Co-Founder

💬 "It’s just getting the balance right—trying to be there for your baby while giving your all at work. Time management is the hardest part—you never feel like there are enough hours in the day!" – Grace, Stylist

💬 "I come on set with my baby, and the hardest part is travelling. Navigating the London tube with a pram is a whole new challenge!" – Alice, Model

Breastfeeding vs. Bottle-feeding: What worked for them?

💬 "I breastfed both my children, which was a privilege. But it does add an extra layer of worry when working—you need to have bottles ready and find time to pump." – Rebecca

💬 "We’re exclusively breastfeeding for now. I haven’t quite mastered the bottle yet, so she’s stuck to me full-time! Hopefully, we’ll try pumping soon, but no rush." – Alice

💬 "I did combi-feeding—bottle-feeding in the evenings so my partner could help, then fully transitioned to bottle-feeding at six weeks." – Olivia

💬 "I did a bit of both. I breastfed at first, then introduced pumping, and later switched to formula. It was about finding what worked best for us as a family." – Grace

What is a working mum’s superpower?

💬 "Juggling a million things at once—being present at work while constantly thinking about what your children need when you get home. Multitasking is our biggest superpower." – Rebecca

💬 "Time management!" – Olivia

💬 "Being fully present in both worlds. Giving your all to work while making sure your baby always feels loved and connected to you." – Grace

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a new working mum?

💬 "Don’t be too hard on yourself. It takes time to adjust to this new normal. Find your groove—with your baby, your partner, and yourself. Be kind to yourself." – Olivia

💬 "Take your time. The newborn phase is so special. Work as a team with your partner to create balance so you can be a mum while also growing professionally." – Grace

💬 "Get help wherever you can—friends, family, paid help, unpaid help. Whatever makes your life easier and helps you feel comfortable leaving your baby when needed." – Rebecca

💬 "Do it at your own pace. Don’t feel pressured to rush back into work if it doesn’t feel right. Enjoy the time with your baby—it goes so quickly." – Alice
